Whirl-Pak® Cellulose Speci-Sponge® Bags are purpose-built for environmental surface sampling across work areas, equipment, animal carcasses, and other critical control points where monitoring for Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli, coliforms, and other pathogens is required. Each sterile cellulose sponge is sealed inside a write-on Whirl-Pak® bag, available in dry or hydrated options.
Hydrated sponges contain 10 mL of neutralizing buffer (monopotassium phosphate, sodium thiosulfate, and aryl sulfonate complex), allowing quick and effective neutralization during swabbing. The dry option provides flexibility for custom hydration.
How to use:
Tear open the sterile Whirl-Pak® bag, remove the sponge, and if hydrated, squeeze out any excess buffer. Swab the target surface, return the sponge to the bag, fold the top over three or more times, and secure with the wire tabs. Samples are then ready to be sent for laboratory testing.
