LACHOI Digital Display Abbe refractometer
The Whirl-pak LACHOI Digital Display Abbe Refractometer is a high-precision benchtop instrument designed to measure the refractive index ($nD$) and sugar concentration (Brix) of liquids, solids, and semi-transparent materials. By combining traditional Abbe optical principles with a modern digital interface, it provides rapid, high-accuracy readings with automatic temperature compensation, making it a staple for quality control in the food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
Description
Description
The LACHOI Digital Abbe Refractometer (typically the WYA-2S or similar series) represents a significant upgrade over manual analog models. While it still utilizes the classic “critical angle” measurement method, the internal microprocessor automatically converts optical data into digital results, eliminating human reading errors.
It is exceptionally versatile, capable of measuring not only liquid samples but also solid substances like glass and plastic films. The unit features a robust stainless steel base and a hard glass prism assembly designed for long-term durability in intensive laboratory environments.
Key Features
Dual-Scale Measurement: Measures both the Refractive Index ($nD$) and Brix (%) simultaneously.
Range ($nD$): 1.3000 – 1.7000
Range (Brix): 0 – 100% (or 0 – 95% depending on model)
High-Resolution Digital Display: Replaces traditional eyepiece scales with a clear, backlit LCD or color touch screen that displays measurement data, sample temperature, and Brix-TC (Temperature Corrected) values instantly.
Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): Automatically adjusts Brix readings based on the sample temperature (typically between 15°C and 45°C), ensuring accuracy without manual chart calculations.
Advanced Optical Components: Equipped with a high-hardness glass prism that is scratch and corrosion-resistant, paired with a standard 589nm LED light source for consistent illumination.
Visual Aiming with Digital Processing: Maintains the “visual targeting” method (aligning the dark/light boundary) for maximum precision while using a digital encoder to process the final value.
External Temperature Control: Features water jacketed prism ports that allow connection to a circulating water bath, enabling measurements at specific stabilized temperatures (up to 70°C).
Connectivity & Data Export: Includes an RS232 interface for direct connection to a PC or lab printer, facilitating easy data logging and compliance with traceability standards.
Multi-Sample Versatility: Suitable for transparent, translucent, and sub-transparent liquids, as well as solid samples and foils.
